2017 in Review
For our first edition, we'd like to recap a great year for Harvard GlobalWE. Our SIG has more than 500 members, representing 29 countries. We are in the process of starting a student group at the College with the help of our two student liaisons. This past year, we hosted a number of GlobalWE events, including our second Annual GlobalWE Expo in Cambridge. The Expo featured more than 30 organizations dedicated to empowerment of women and girls. This year, we also ran our 3rd Annual Student Essay Contest for students in Afghanistan, Turkey, Pakistan and Germany. As with our 2015 and 2016 contests, essays will be publishedon our website.
GlobalWE Board Commentary
Over the past several months in the U.S., a glaring light has been shed on the prevalence of sexual harassment, assault, misconduct and complicity in the workplace, on campus, and in the daily lives of women. A vital conversation has begun, and it is through our voices and/or willingness to listen that it will continue. As a group dedicated to the empowerment of women and girls, we hope that our members will be open to engaging in dialogue or be receptive to listening, whether it's at work, in your social circles, in your families, or in your classrooms. This is no longer a topic limited to the whispers of women or victims; it is one that concerns all of us.
As a SIG, we will be hosting a free roundtable discussion with alumni and students on the issues surrounding sexual harassment, assault, misconduct and complicity on Saturday, February 10th from 12pm to 1:30pm at Harvard's Office of Career Services. A pizza lunch will be served. For anyone who will be in Cambridge for the HAA's Alumni Leadership Conference, and for others who can make it to Cambridge, we would love to have as many alumni and students as possible attend. A formal evite will be sent in the coming days, so please watch your inbox.
In 2018, we will also be holding Part II of our Title IX Series on Sexual Assault on Campus. In the meantime, if you have suggestions for articles we can post on our website, events you think would be important to host, or other information that may be helpful to our members, please write to us.

Your Harvard GlobalWE Membership is free, but we encourage members to show your interest in and commitment to global women’s empowerment by making a tax-deductible donation. Harvard GlobalWE is a 100% volunteer-run non-profit organization. Our administrative costs (email service, printing, mailing, event costs), have been funded almost entirely by our volunteers, and we'd love your help to defray some of these costs. Your donations will also help us support more events and speakers, as well as increase our capacity for outreach and collaboration with organizations worldwide.
While we suggest a gift of $20 per year, we recognize that financial resources vary, so please give as you are able ––we are grateful for any amount. Contributions can be made to GlobalWE via our website here.
Thank you in advance for your support of our mission and efforts.
