From verbal abuse to sexual violence, from street harassment to acid attacks, women are victimized in every way possible by not just hungry backward men but this educated but unethical and ruthless society as well.

One of the very main and growing problems Pakistan is plagued with is Honor killing, something in which there’s no honor.

You know what, we live in a nation where there’s none or fewer importance of respect for women and yet it’s honorable for our ‘superior’ men to murder a women who goes against the unjust rules set up by a barbaric and shameless society.

Women get murdered for getting education, for marrying someone of their choice, for working and doing jobs because it seemingly ‘disgraces’ her family. A very recent case was of a model who got murdered by her brother as she was shaming him by working in the fashion industry and providing for her family, which was something he should have done. He apparently did so to ‘save’ his honor. As by killing her, he was going to bring back respect, honor and dignity to the family. I am sure his honor must have been saved by gaining the title of a ‘murderer’, huh?

Who are these weak men and this unrighteous society to decide the way women are going to live? Why are women being thrown acids at for leaving the house to work because of the immoral men out there? The problem is the men out there, right? Then why aren’t they locked inside their homes and not made to educate and work, as they are the one’s corrupting the society, not women? But it’s utterly sad and miserable that we are living in a country where it is believed that women should hide themselves, they should live a guilty life because apparently it’s their fault that the people out there are dark and ruthless. Hardly anyone realizes the importance of not just righting women but rectifying men as well. Showing and teaching them how to resect women, how to treat them with honor, how to value their rights and beliefs.

The main reason why these unjust beliefs exist is the lack of need to realize that we as a nation cant progress until men and women if not treated like equals, are given due respect. We need to grasp the significance of educating women and giving them the freedom their religion is given them right of.

Violence on women as part of honor killing, in urban but mostly rural Pakistan is a national shame and disgrace. Even though law takes it turn, we have to go miles to change the situation. All that was needed was just a small spark of sense and righteousness which can now be seen in the new generation.

It’s is the dreadful beliefs drilled into our minds by the society that women are some inferior creatures, that have to be now wrenched out. It is our wrong and immoral principles that are now to be eliminated. We have to all over, as a nation, begin from the start and get rid of this and other curses engulfing our country.  Ironically, honor killing has no place in not just our beautiful religion Islam, but also in humanity.
